Things to Do in Tennessee - page 4

Foxfire Mountain Adventure Park

Amongst the wooded hills of Tennessee, zip lines, rope courses, thrill rides, and a suspension bridge have popped up at the Foxfire Mountain Adventure Park. Aside from being a great way to immerse yourself in the nature of the Great Smoky Mountains, the various activities at the park allow for adrenaline addicts to experience a rush. At over 475 feet above the ground, the Goliath is the tallest group of zip lines in the Smokies and one of the tallest in the country. There’s a slightly smaller zip line tour that zips over canopies and near waterfalls that is also quite scenic.

If it’s climbing you’re after, the 60 foot climbing wall as well as the rope course through the trees are open seasonally. You can also free-fall from the top of the climbing wall, or enjoy a calmer walk on the park’s hiking trails. Lastly, the 8-wheeled ATVs of the park take visitors on an adventure through the surrounds, across rivers and through highly forested areas. Guides are on hand to ensure the safety of guests.

Hollywood Wax Museum Entertainment Center Pigeon Forge
2 Tours and Activities

While Pigeon Forge, Tennessee may be best known as the home of the Dollywood amusement park, it got a new top attraction when the Hollywood Wax Museum Entertainment Center opened in May 2012. Built as a tribute to the U.S. film and television industry, the museum is the largest Hollywood wax museum in the country and the only one dedicated entirely to celebrities. With a large Hollywood sign, a giant King Kong scaling the New York skyline and a replica of Mount Rushmore featuring the sculpted faces of John Wayne, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin, it is truly a can’t miss attraction.

Covering 22,000 square feet, the museum offers great photo opportunities for visitors as the wax figures stand out in the open instead of behind glass. Take a selfie with Brad Pitt, dance with Michael Jackson or share a bench with Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump. And then head up to the roof to get up close and personal with King Kong.

Cumberland Park

The streets of Nashville are home to some of the best honky tonk bars in America. But there’s more to this city than country music and two step. Cumberland Park offers visitors 6.5 acres of outdoor fun along the picturesque riverfront.

Travelers with small children can make a day of this beautiful new park, which includes plenty of activities for the younger set. The Hollow offers up an interactive nature center, complete with a life-size maze. The Gorge’s climbing wall provides kids with an opportunity to scale walls and engage with peers. And the Explorer Trail winds through wide open spaces—a respite from the sounds of downtown Nashville.

Cumberland Park is known for attracting children and families, but a full calendar of events aimed at an older crowd means there’s something for everyone at this popular spot. Visitors can spend an afternoon enjoying the park on their own, or see it as part of a Nashville carriage ride, which hits up all the Nashville monuments, too.
