Giethoorn and Zaanse Schans Windmills Day Trip from Amsterdam

The trip was beautiful and our guide was very accommodating and fun! Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

Rashid and Abraham were excellent tour guides. We saw so many amazing things. The Dutch countryside is beautiful. We also appreciated the leisure time for lunch, shopping and wandering. Best tour we’ve done during our two visits to Amsterdam!

100% YOU WILL NOT REGRET! Our tour guide is Ibrahim. He made our tour more exciting and fun! He was very nice, funny, approachable and very clear with instructions. He toured us privately and then after that, they gave us enough time to discover the place on our own. They accommodated us very well from beginning to end! My husband and I took the metro from our hotel to Central Station for an 8 AM departure time with our Tour Guide and van driver, Ibrahim. We walked about a block to meet the group in front of a nearby hotel. Our trip included a visit to the living history village of Zaanse Schans, a drive north through the reclaimed land and dikes, and a visit to the quaint village of Giethoorn. We could not have asked for a more friendly and accommodating Tour Guide. Ibrahim made frequent stops along the drive to accommodate guests. He provided an informative commentary on what we were seeing as we left the city as well as along the drive through the countryside and in each village that we visited. At each stop, Ibrahim provided us with general directions, instructions for where to meet at our departure time, and information that would be helpful for our visit. When we arrived in Zaanse Schans, he took us directly to the cheese shop then to the wooden shoe factory prior to the arrival of large groups of people on huge tour buses. Then, after some information, he left us to visit the village on our own for about an hour. The drive to Giethoorn was about 1.5 hours but was filled with information about the Dutch land reclamation and other interesting details. In Giethoorn, we took a boat tour (included) of the village which is built on canals - without streets. Then, we had lunch on our own and time to wander the village and shops before heading home. A stop to see beautiful tulip fields capped off a perfect tour of The Netherlands that isn’t visible from Amsterdam. We highly recommend this tour if you have a full day for a visit. Excellent tour guide!

Our guide Ibrahim, was excellent and provided great context and colour to the trip. Just the right mix of unguided exploration time and structure to the trip. Very professional and thoughtful. Decent weather helped a lot. Can’t always choose your fellow travellers though. Their tardiness was handled appropriately by our guide.

This was the best tour with a par excellent tour Guide Sayid. If it was in our control would have taken him as our guide for rest of the tours to other spots too. He is a down to earth person and takes utmost care for each and every tourist. This tour is highly recommended and would remain in our memory for ever. Thank to Sayid.

The trip to Zaanse Schans was scenic n also engaging while the one at Geithoon could have been a little descriptive, include 10 mins walk thru village By foot etc

This tour was wonderful! We were able to see and do everything at Zaanse Schans- see how they make cheese & clogs, plenty of time to buy both, tour two windmills, and see the museum. We went with our family including two kids (7 and 4 years old). They had a great time. They really enjoyed the sheep and goats there too! You can tour the windmills and go up to the top of one for an extra cost- free if you have the museumkart. The museum was a little lackluster if you don’t have time to see it. Giethoorn was one of our favorite places ever! So peaceful and quaint! I would have loved to spend the night there. We loved just walking around with an ice cream. My only complaint was the canal cruise boat was packed. They could have taken half the amount of people and it would have made for a more comfortable ride. But overall, it was a wonderful trip! Our guides were very helpful, they got us there early before the huge crowds arrived, took group pictures for us, and even brought our purchases back to the van for us!
