Meet a guide in the morning or afternoon at your Enkhuizen hotel, cruise port, or at the town’s train station, then learn the basics of Enkhuizen history as you follow a route into the heart of the historic port town.

Set a pace that’s good for your group, and walk along the bustling harbor and the town’s main shopping street, where your guide will share the quirky history of building ships in bottles—the town is home to the world’s largest collection of ships in bottles. See the Dromedary Defense Tower and the town’s South Church, or Zuiderkerk, which houses a splendid pipe organ built in 1621.

Stroll the Snouck van Loosenpark, a green space that was part of a 19th-century social housing project. This walking tour concludes as the South Sea Museum, or Zuiderzee Museum, where you can keep exploring maritime history on your own. At the end of the tour, your guide can help you plan the rest of your time in Enkhuizen, with tips on the best places to eat, drink, see, and explore.

Your visit to Enkhuizen is made complete with a visit to the famed Zuiderzeemuseum. The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen revives the stories of people who once lived on the shores of the Zuiderzee. See, hear, taste and smell everyday life around the Zuiderzee as it was before the Afsluitdijk (IJsselmeer Barrier Dam) changed the sea into the IJsselmeer in 1932. In the summertime the Museum ferry carries you across the IJsselmeer to the Outdoor Museum. The open-air section covers 15 acres and accommodates authentic buildings from the former Zuiderzee region, such as a church, a fish-curing shed, a mill, a cheese warehouse, shops and dwelling houses from the surrounding fishing villages. In the wintertime, you can explore the indoor museum, housing the treasure chest of the Zuiderzee. Temporary exhibitions display the rich collection of the Museum. Our guide will tell you some things about the museum and after that you can explore the museum on you own if you wish.
