Pompeii & Herculaneum Day Trip from Naples

Easy to book on line and to get the necessary information. The trip is well organised and covers the main points of such a visit. Our guide was engaged and did a good work. The start of the day picking up the rest of the participating visitors was although a bit complicated and too long, but we did come away at the end.

Chose this over the cruise ships vastly overpriced shore excursion. After the initial lack of communication and attendance by the coordinator at the advised time (welcome to Italy 😁) all went well. Pompeii was better than expected and not as crowded as we were warned about. God tour if not a little rushed. However, avoid the Cameo factory and there overpriced rip off. Herculaneum was even better and is a lot quieter in terms of tourists but far more intact and will give you a real sense of life in the times

The pick-up and transportation were fine. Lunch was also very good. Pompeii was interesting but Herculaneum felt so much more real . In my opinion, if you only could do one of these tours, I suggest that you visit Herculaneum. Sylvana the guide was excellent with her knowledge and friendliness.

We spent the right amount of time at each site. We had a great lunch experience. The only minus was we left a medical device on the bus and did not recover it.

Great locations visited, and our tour guide was really informative. However, it was not well organised. We stood around for some time whilst they decided to go to a different restaurant for lunch, which was ok, not great.

I tried to walk to Hotel Naples, my meeting point. I got really, really lost. I fell down, because, I was trying to read the building numbers, and there was literally, a hole in the sidewalk. It was almost time to be at Hotel Naples, and I was now frantic, I was running late, I fell and cut both my knees and elbow and ripped my Capri's. Luckily, I stopped at a small hotel and a nice lady from Brazil, was using the same company. I was able to use the hotels internet, and I let the tour people, my name and where I was at. They told me to stay put, and MARCELLA, a tour guide, was coming to collect the lady from Brazil and her Mother. Francesco, the van driver, would take me with them, and switch me to the right tour bus. They, switched me and a few other people to our right tour buses. I can never say "THANK YOU" enough to Marcella and Francesco. Rosanna and Sicvada, were great in getting us all on and off of the bus. I really enjoyed having the tour guide at Pompeii and Herculaneum, I believe that was Rosanna. It was nice to hear the history of both places and to be able to ask questions. I felt that this tour was well worth the money. Plus, all of the above mentioned workers, "went above and beyond, to make my dream of seeing Pompei and Herculaneum". I will never forget their kindness.

This tour was fabulous because it covered all the basic important buildings ad streets at Pompeii in the morning followed by a fantastic visit to Herculaneum in the afternoon. The contrast between them was startling due to the difference between the pyroclastic materials burning Pompeii's buildings and people versus a mud slide covering over Herculaneum which left many buildings/objects to look as they did pre-volcano blast.

Fantastic places but this felt like being herded with a bus carrying at least three or four different tours. At lunchtime between the two destinations we shuttled back to Naples to a restaurant for lunch. This is very convenient for the tour to swap around us cattle/tourists but adds an hour to the day. Our guide Fabiana was lovely but her English so heavily accented that it was very hard work to follow her commentary which was a shame. The speed of the tour was set at a very gentle pace and on reflection I would have preferred to make my own way and use the available audioguides and go at my/our own pace. Having been to both these places well worth going to the Naples Archeological Museum to see some of the art work in reality.

An excellent tour of both sites and a highlight of our cruise - our guide was very knowledgeable and we managed to see a great deal in the few hours available - despite the horrendous crowds at Pompeii!
