Lava messed up our path to the volcano but still had a good time
Elizabeth_A
, May 2022
Unfortunately our path to see the volcano was destroy but the volcanos lava, so I feel like I didn’t get the full experience of what the tour. Did manage to see aspects of the volcano like the lava from where we were, and I do want to give a little shout out to our guide, he did try his best to make sure each of us were okay and did apologise, like he was the one at fault. I met some cool people on the tour who stayed longer in Iceland than I did, and went back and from the pictures it looked amazing, if I had to give bit of advice maybe book for different days just in case.

Wrong title of the tour

Seeing the picture of volcano in the advertisement and the word “active” is misleading. The volcano is dormant for a few weeks and there is nothing to see. Even couldn’t see the crater.

Complete waste of money
Anna_L
, Sep 2021
The excursion was a complete waste of money. If you have a car, avoid this excursion. You can easily drive there and hike on your own. Be sure to check the volcanic webcam for eruptions before you go. Without an eruption, all you'll see is black volcanic rock from previous eruptions and maybe a bit of white smoke.

She fully cooperated and out on a show

The volcano became visibly active while we were there so we felt lucky. Lava oozed down multiple lava valleys across the ridge from us in bright red display as we watched what had been gray-black solid turn fiery red. We learned when we returned to the van that the area was being evacuated due to the relative closeness to our path and another one. Timing was everything.

Clean, friendly but signage would help

Take note of your path while ascending. There are multiple directions to exit the mountain and no signs.

Amazing Volcano tour with Vjeran
Lian_W
, Aug 2021
Vjeran was our tour guide and he was amazing! He ensured everyone’s safety from the get go and was very accommodating to everyone’s hiking experience. He was very knowledgeable about the geography and guided us to the best routes. We had a great experience at the volcano and we couldn’t imagine how it could get much better than the tour with Vjeran.

A difficult hike for no guarantees

The overall experience of seeing the volcano and lava flows was very interesting. The hike to the top was very difficult and coming down was even harder. I think the description of the tour’s underestimated the difficulty. Lus you never know if there will be anything to see.

Amazing trip up the Volcano!
Michelle_A
, Jul 2021
Arctic Adventures was on time and our guide Saga was super friendly and gave us lots of good information. Unfortunately, the volcano didn't erupt that day, but we learned the way up and we went at the end of our trip on our own. And we saw it! It was amazing! I wouldn't have known where to go or how to get there without Saga's help, so we were glad we booked this tour on the front end of the trip. Note: the hike is NOT the easiest! We made it up, but it's very steep and takes a bit of time.

Facsinating and unique experience
Aki_N
, Jul 2021
Our tour guide started by saying “this is the most dangerous place in Iceland right now”. Given the limitations of foggy weather, this was still an interesting visit to the sight of an active volcano. We saw lots of newly formed (and still warm) lava. Volcanic activity was evident through the steam rising through the fissures in the freshly formed rock. As the caldera was engulfed in fog, we did not have a chance to actually see the hot lava flowing.

What a magical day. The volcano was spewing red lava high in the crater. The climb up was a little tough for me (71 Yates old) but well worth it.

Great only if you avoid arctic adventure.
Timothy_S
, Jul 2021
The hike and volcano were great the guide from arctic adventures was not good. We have toured over 100 day trips and if you avoid arctic adventures being the tour guide this is a five star trip. BEWARE arctic adventures our guide showed up over an hour late no call no apology but she did say she could not find the keys to the bus. Also zero talking on the trip zero background zero history our guide merely walked with us then upon return to the bus we waited for our missing group for over half an hour with no explanation from the guide. So just make sure you don’t have arctic adventures as your guide and the trip will be magnificent.

A waste of a day

Really a waste of a day. It could be done in 2 hours. You could not even see the crater. Even the guide had no customer focus at all.

It was amazing to see the Volcano. One suggestion , please put down that lunch pick up is available . It is always so unclear with Iceland tours of you are in the middle of nowhere or somewhere you can pick up a bite ! That causes stress in trying to figure out packing/ getting food before the trip

This is a once and a lifetime experience!! A MUST do while in Iceland! Our tour guide Hilmer was educated and super professional. You will never want to leave. They aren’t sure how long the volcano will be erupting, so book your ticket ASAP!
