Glacier Glad We Went
Claire_C
, Jun 2022
We had so much fun seeing the glacier up close (and under our feet). It was cool to use the gear and have a guide (Ari, who was phenomenal) to explain what we were seeing. We got our moneys worth in terms of time spent on the glacier, although be prepared for some prep time as fitting the gear and getting it on requires some time. While you couldn’t go very high, the crevasses were pretty tall and we got to drink glacier water! We loved it!
Nate was a great guide...

Road closures in the morning and refused to provide refund

There was a road closure when leaving Reykjavik and were unable to attend. The tour company have refused to refund us despite me sending a picture of the map showing closure. Very disappointed with the response and will not be reccomending and will be further contacting Viator about this.

Great tour, great guide!

The guides were very helpful with getting the equipment on us and going over safety guidelines. The guide Sam was an amazing and knowledgeable person and did a magnificent job explaining things to us about the glacier and was also very helpful and patient with the group! Doing a glacier walk almost seems mandatory if you're visiting Iceland!

Lovely experience. Happy we did the first session as when we were wrapping up there were so many people it would've been too crowded. Was probably only walking on the glacier for less than an hour after driving there, walking towards the glacier and putting on the shoe clamps. Guide was lovely and friendly.
Good experience walking at glacier

we booked this tour in advance of our 10day road trip in Iceland. due to some route change, we changed the time once before the departure which the vender helps to accommodate the reschedule smoothly.
The tour was well organized with sufficient equipment, but I would suggest including the hiking shoes into the cost instead of surcharge EUR10 as normal hiking shoes was not fit for the tour.
Our guide- Boris is from Czech, who did a great job to facilitate and lead the tour. He did not only provide clear instructions and briefing during the hike but also add lots of fun photo points.
Overall, recommend this tour. (I wouldn't suggest this hike to elderly ppl or too young kids as it is still a bit physical requirement esp. on tough weather).

Sweet Experience

Amazing experience. One of the best times in Iceland. I did the 11am slot and good too bc the mountain gets a bit busy afterwards. Our guide Marzipan was sweet, friendly, and truly knew the glacier. She def was the best! The Troll team provided you with everything you will need to get up the Glacier. And at the end there are cookies!
Incredible experience

Our tour was almost cancelled due to...

Our tour was almost cancelled due to weather, but we showed up anyway, the forecast turned out to be wrong, and we ended up being the only two people on the tour haha. Our tour guide was the Norwegian Tyrm, spelling may be wrong and he was great! He was entertaining, answered all of our questions, and really fun in general. The tour includes a van ride to the foot of the glacier, gear crampons, helmet, ice axe, and a guided hike around the glacier, including a crevasse, which is really interesting because the ice is unlike anything I've ever seen before. I'd highly recommend

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
